We produce high-quality, monstrous films in collaboration with television networks, production companies, funding agencies, and co-producers. With an international focus, our goal is to create smart films for a global audience. Our emphasis is on unique film projects with a strong narrative core and authentic characters.
Red Monster was founded by the renowned filmmaker Stefan Wolner, who has been active in the TV and film industry since 1997. After starting his career as an editor at the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, ORF (including work on “Taxi Orange” and “Starmania”), he soon pursued his true passion—production and directing. He substantiated this passion with two academic degrees: a diploma as an engineer from the University of Applied Sciences for Media and a master’s degree in TV and film production. Since then, Wolner has realized numerous award-winning documentaries for TV and cinema. His significant accolades include the Dr. Karl Renner Prize as part of Klappeauf, the Austrian Documentary Award, the Audience Award at This Human World, the CCA Venus Award, the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, Best Music Documentary at the ARIZONA Film Festival, and a Romy nomination. His films have been showcased at festivals worldwide, including the Hofer Filmtage, the Sarajevo International Festival “Sarajevo Winter,” the Madrid International Film Festival, the Bozner Film Festival, the Diagonale, Crossing Europe, and the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival. Additionally, he is a member of the Austrian Film Academy and dok.at.
Together with journalist Hannah Wahl, he established the MABACHER AWARD, which is awarded annually for the best inclusive film work.
Since 2024, producer Merlin Mayer has strengthened Red Monster’s core team, focusing on the development of innovative projects for the international market, fully in line with Red Monster’s vision. Alongside the annually produced TV films, the projects “Meine Schwester,” “Vedunia,” and “Im Glashaus” are currently in development.
