Red Monster – Boutique Films with a Documentary Soul
Red Monster develops and produces documentary and fiction films.
Founded by director and writer Stefan Wolner, the company moves between television, cinema, and experimental formats – always searching for stories that resonate beneath the surface.
Stefan Wolner has been active in the film industry since 1997. He began his career as an editor and content creator at the Austrian public broadcaster ORF, working on formats such as Taxi Orange and Starmania. Later, he shifted his focus to directing and producing. He holds two academic degrees in media technology and film production, specializing in visual storytelling.
His body of work includes over 50 documentaries as well as several cinema and TV projects, which have been screened and awarded at international festivals such as the Hofer Filmtage, Max Ophüls Prize, Sarajevo Film Festival, Diagonale, and Madrid IFF. His awards include the Dr. Karl Renner Prize, the Austrian Documentary Film Award, and the Silver Dolphin in Cannes.
Wolner is also co-founder of the MABACHER AWARD for inclusive filmmaking, together with journalist Hannah Wahl.
Red Monster is currently expanding its focus – from classic documentaries to hybrid narratives and fiction-driven projects.
Current projects:
– My Sister – an intimate cinema documentary about life with MS
– The Man Who Tried to Sell His Fear – a surreal short film about letting go
– Female Poverty – a documentary about inequality and resilience
Red Monster listens where others pass by. Stories that stay.
